Why should you join CTA? Here is a breakdown of what members get vs. non-members:

Bargaining Input is solicited, and member is able to vote on ratification. Input is solicited, but non-member cannot vote on ratification.
Grievances Representation is provided at all levels, including arbitration. Representation is provided at all levels, excluding arbitration.
Dismissal/Layoffs Full representation—An attorney is provided. None
Representation Representation, advisement, mediation, with the appropriate administrative personnel. Representation is provided at all levels, excluding arbitration.
Unfair Labor Practices Representation is provided if your individual or bargaining rights have been violated under EERA.  None
Legal Services Referral to attorney for job-related issues free of charge. For non-job-related issues, ½ hour of free consultation is provided. None
